After 45 years at the forefront of his practice, antitrust veteran Joe Sims quietly stepped down from the partnership of Jones Day on Jan. 1. He is now formally of counsel at Jones Day and is no longer actively working at the firm.
Sims spent his career on the front lines—usually on the winning side—of numerous high-profile antitrust battles, including AOL-Time Warner in 2000, Sirius-XM in 2008, and AMR Corp.-US Airways in 2013. His last effort, for AB Electrolux in its $3.3 billion pursuit of GE’s appliance business, ran aground last December after the DOJ went to trial to stop the merger.
