Nearly a quarter of lawyers interviewed by staffing firm Robert Half Legal said their law firms or corporate legal departments would be filling vacancies or adding new positions next year. Respondents said litigators and their support personnel would be especially in demand, with strong hiring expected in the first six months of 2016.

Twenty-four percent of lawyers surveyed by Robert Half said they expected overall legal hiring to remain steady, compared with 29 percent six months ago. Fifty-four percent of respondents said they expect to fill vacancies only, and 15 percent said they wouldn’t fill vacant posts or add positions. Just 1 percent expected to cut jobs in the next six months, and more than half said it was difficult to find qualified candidates.
