Reed Smith’s representation of the J/P Haitian Relief Organization, the Los Angeles-based nonprofit founded in 2010 by Academy Award-winning actor and political activist Sean Penn in response to the devastating earthquake of Jan. 12, 2010, that killed more than 100,000 Haitians, wasn’t readily apparent at a press conference Monday in New York at The Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations.
Christopher Walters, senior pro bono counsel at Reed Smith in Philadelphia and leader of the firm’s pro bono program, and Paris-based commercial law and regulatory partner Daniel Kadar waited in the wings as Penn thanked government bigwigs and signed a letter of intent for a reforestation project called “Haiti Takes Root,” which seeks to address deforestation in Haiti through agricultural and social efforts.
