Longtime New York litigator Ira Lee “Ike” Sorkin has left Lowenstein Sandler to launch his own shop, Sorkin & Sondhi, the veteran white-collar defense lawyer confirmed Thursday.

Sorkin, best known for representing convicted Ponzi scheme leader Bernard Madoff, joined Lowenstein Sandler nearly five years ago after a five-year stint at Dickstein Shapiro, where he co-led the latter’s securities litigation and white-collar practices. Sorkin said in a phone call Thursday that his split with Lowenstein Sandler was amicable.
