After 45 days of sometimes thrilling and occasionally mind-numbing testimony, New York prosecutors rested their case Thursday in the Dewey & LeBoeuf criminal trial.
Lawyers for ex-Dewey & LeBoeuf chairman Steven Davis and former CFO Joel Sanders quickly moved to dismiss the charges against their clients. Andrew Frisch, who represents Sanders, filed a letter motion Thursday afternoon saying the state’s case suffered from “overarching deficiencies” that warranted dismissal. Elkan Abramowitz of Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello, who represents Davis, argued in a separate motion that prosecutors had presented only “paltry evidence” and “rank speculation upon which a guilty verdict cannot be based as a matter of law.”
