A former Sidley Austin real estate partner may see his license suspended for one year after he admitted to faking close to $70,000 in expenses.

The Chicago-based lawyer, Lee Smolen, resigned from Sidley in 2012, only to reemerge at DLA Piper in February of 2013. The Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission’s hearing board found that Smolen engaged in dishonest and deceitful conduct while at Sidley and on Wednesday recommended that he complete 12 months of treatment with a psychiatrist in addition to the one-year suspension of his license.
