A federal judge isn’t buying an argument by a unit of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc that it should receive a license for software that it was ruled to have infringed because the software is important to its business.

U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest in Manhattan ruled last year that ABN AMRO Bank NV infringes on copyrighted software belonging to Complex Systems Inc. ABN AMRO, which is owned by RBS, says it’s been trying to negotiate a licensing deal with CSI ever since, but CSI isn’t being reasonable, so Forrest should come up with a price.
