Weil, Gotshal & Manges’s recent losses continued this week with Proskauer Rose announcing Wednesday that it had hired former Weil private equity and buyouts partner STEVEN PECK in Boston.

Peck’s departure comes on the heels of a spate of defections from Weil’s offices in Houston and Dallas and several months after the firm said it planned to scale back its commercial litigation practices in Houston and Boston amid a broader round of cost-cutting. (The Am Law Daily covered the Texas losses here and here.)

Peck, who expects to bring some of his clients with him, says his decision to move to Proskauer was driven by his respect for his new firm’s private equity and private funds groups, the scale of Proskauer’s Boston office and the Boston office’s stature in the firm, and his long friendship with Proskauer partner Steven Ellis. Peck and Ellis, who serves as cohead of the multi-tranche finance group in Boston, attended Boston University Law School together.
