It’s an old stereotype but I’d bet it’s still true: The nasty partner who terrifies and abuses underlings—and sometimes fellow partners.

He (not so often “she,” though she-bosses can be mean in more subtle ways) will summon you to his office, put you on the hot seat about some obscure point and berate you for how you allegedly mishandled the matter. Often, the accusation is inaccurate or unjust, but it doesn’t matter. You’ve been humiliated, your confidence shaken and your ego shattered to smithereens.
