K&L Gates, which saw its finances sag in 2014, watched a half-dozen partners depart in recent days for rival Am Law 100 firms.

Ropes & Gray was the beneficiary of three of those defectors, launching a London litigation practice with its hire of K&L Gates disputes partner THOMAS ROSS, as well as bolstering its investment management practice in Chicago by adding K&L Gates partners PAUL DYKSTRA and PAULITA PIKE. Both lawyers previously practiced together at K&L Gates legacy firm Bell Boyd & Lloyd, which poached Dykstra in 2003 from Windy City rival Gardner Carton & Douglas. (Dykstra once served as chairman of Gardner Carton, itself absorbed into Drinker Biddle & Reath in 2006.)
