Kirkland & Ellis, a high-powered Am Law 100 firm that enjoyed another strong financial year in 2014 and made several more notable partner hires, recently picked up a top tax partner in London as three other partners headed for the door in the U.S. and abroad.

JONATHAN KANDEL, a partner in Weil, Gotshal & Manges’ private funds group and head of its London tax team, is poised to join Kirkland’s base in the city, just months after the latter reportedly agreed to pay out at least $8 million per year to lure his former Weil colleague Stephen Lucas to the firm. Kandel joined Weil in 2011 in a notable lateral move from Magic Circle firm Clifford Chance.
