Ilya Alter, a former Dewey & LeBoeuf financial controller responsible for putting together the now-defunct firm’s budget, admitted Tuesday in a criminal trial of three former firm executives that he helped falsify accounting entries in the three years prior to its May 2012 collapse.
Alter, who said he did so in order to make it appear that the struggling firm had less expenses than it actually did by late 2008, is one of seven former Dewey & LeBoeuf employees who have agreed to cooperate with the New York County District Attorney’s Office in exchange for a lighter sentence. He’s also the third cooperating witness to testify in the trial of former chair Steven Davis, former executive director Stephen DiCarmine and ex-CFO Joel Sanders.
