Morgan, Lewis & Bockius is gearing up to absorb 226 partners from Bingham McCutchen by month’s end. But some partners from the latter not making the move are finding themselves stuck until the deal is finalized as expected on Dec. 1.
Three partners, one of whom currently remains at Bingham McCutchen, say the firm amended its partnership agreement a week ago to allow it to suspend distributions to partners who resigned from the firm after Nov. 1 to pursue opportunities elsewhere. The amendment was introduced and voted on as Bingham McCutchen partners approved a combination with Morgan Lewis. On Friday, Morgan Lewis revealed that instead of a full-scale merger, it would bring on 226 partners—not 227 as the firm initially disclosed—from Bingham McCutchen.
