The Office for Civil Rights, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, has launched a new security risk assessment tool, according to a recent release. The app is available for both Windows operating systems and Apple Inc.’s iOS-enabled iPads. The app caters to officers of small- to medium-sized organizations to help them assess risk.

“Protecting patients’ protected health information is important to all healthcare providers,” said Karen DeSalvo, the national coordinator for health information technology, in a statement. The new tool “will help them assess the security of their organizations,” she said.
