You can take your credit cards out of the freezer, warm them up, and safely peruse your favorite online wares and retail shops, because the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council has released the latest version of its payment standards, effective since the first of this month, according to a post by Cynthia O’Donoghue in Reed Smith’s Global Regulatory Enforcement Law blog. The standards aim to protect credit payment card data and are designed to prevent security breaches.

Some key changes from the last set of standards include the new requirement to evaluate malware threats for systems, control physical access to sensitive areas for employees, and the use of best practices for secure coding techniques for payment applications.
