The Securities and Exchange Commission announced its national examination priorities, or areas of focus for 2014 earlier this month and cyber security made the cut yet again, according to a blog post by Amelia Schmidt on Crowell Moring’s Government Contracts.

Specific areas of focus for the SEC include “companies’ governance and supervision of IT systems, information security and response readiness,” says Schmidt, who notes cybersecurity continues to be a focal point for the agency, especially in light of pressure from Congress to demand more transparency from companies about the risks of being hacked. “This year’s NEP (national examination priorities) is the latest sign that corporate cyber-risks and incidents will remain in the agency spotlight in 2014,” she says.
