There’s some bad news for Candy stores. King.com, the developer of the popular App, Candy Crush Saga, has been granted trademark for the word “candy” by the European Commission’s trademark office, according to blog post on Natalie Lederman on Sullivan & Worcester’s “Trending Trademarks.”

However, the sugar shops should actually be safe. “The ‘CANDY’ mark was approved to cover games and software, educational and entertainment services, and apparel,” says Lederman. King.com can now defend their “candied” products against infringers in the EU. And they’ve already started to do so, says Lederman, sending cease and desist letters to apps like Candy Casino Slots and Jewels Craze Connect: Big Blast Mania Land.
