    I worked for the FDIC in the 90‘s. After we closed a bank we were required to remove the files from the law firms handling the bank matters and distribute the work to "minority owned firms". Boy, what a disaster ! Ended up costing the taxpayers huge sums of money. You shouldn‘t hire anyone because of their race or gender, should be based on ability. Mentoring does help.

    Shareholders should demand from legal departments the BEST outside counsel available, regardless of gender, race, religion, socioeconomic background, etc. To do otherwise without a strict accounting of the risks and costs entailed is to invite SEC scrutiny.

    Sorry the comments posted so far are way off the mark. The empirical data shows that white men are not discriminated against in the employment context--instead they are assumed to be competent and others are assumed not to be. This has been shown to be the case over and over again. Enough with the false narratives of white victimization. It has also been shown that diverse and inclusive teams (inclusive means exactly that--it includes everyone--so white men too) function better and are more effective. It is 2017, please let us move beyond all of this tiresome nonsense.

    Fortune 500 GC and L, your responses sit well within the new administration‘s belief system, that white males are always superior in intellect and work ethic, which is bullshit! Every time there is a GC that want to keep their commitment, you two and others whine about quotas and other such nonsense, please stop. Diversity you say is good in one statement and in the next you bring your ego as a white male or someone who is not part of the diverse attorney of color to the forefront, nobody cares! The world has changed, change with it, or be left in the dustbin of history. Oh, this is my real name and company, that is honesty.

    Agree with L‘s comment above. Facebook‘s program appears to be a quota, which is effectively discrimination against white males. This also is an observation, not a value judgment. Facebook has made that value judgment, which, if it were in the employment context, would violate Title VII prohibitions against race and gender discrimination, in my legal opinion.

    Diversity is good. But keep in mind that, in genera,l the definition of "minority" in relevant statutes usually means everyone except for males who are white or from the middle east (yes middle east people are usually left out and middle east women are in only because they are women). This could result in: i) less hiring of qualified (perhaps better qualified) white males; and ii) a focus on hiring minority people who are not native born blacks or Hispanics. This is an observation, not a value judgment.
