If you’re reading this, the chances are that you’re a law firm partner. That means you’re probably doing pretty well financially—big house, nice car, lots of vacations. (OK, maybe you don’t take
that many vacations.) But I challenge you not to feel at least a degree of professional envy of the partners at one U.K. law firm who earned almost $8 million in the past year from selling their shares in the practice.

Equity partners at national midmarket player Gateley already received a $30 million windfall when it carried out the first ever U.K. law firm initial public offering in June 2015. But the firm’s public listing has allowed partners to cash in again by offloading stock, with five Gateley board members receiving more than $400,000 each. (The filing did not reveal the total number of partners who sold stock.)
