U.S. corporations are facing an unprecedented level of scrutiny from government agencies like the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission, say antitrust lawyers at several Am Law 100 firms. As a result, several firms have in the past week hired high-profile antitrust partners from their rivals and public service.
Baker Botts became the latest firm to do so Monday, with the announcement that it picked up partner Michael Perry, a former counsel to the director of the FTC’s bureau of competition. Perry follows Stephen Weissman, who returned late last year to Baker Botts’ antitrust practice after serving in the same bureau at the FTC.
