After a gunman killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida last weekend, law firms have inundated the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence with offers of pro bono assistance, said Jonathan Lowy, director of the gun control nonprofit’s Legal Action Project.
“When gun issues spike you see renewed interest from lawyers saying, ‘What can I do?’” said Lowry, a former Dickstein Shapiro and McGuire Woods associate who has been with the Brady Center for 19 years. The nonprofit’s Legal Action Project works with about 700 lawyers and nearly two dozen law firms to bring litigation intended to reduce gun violence.
