After a former partner testified that Dewey & LeBoeuf had failed to make promised bank loan repayments and left him holding the bag, a defense lawyer in the Dewey criminal trial sought Tuesday to deflect responsibility onto the defunct firm’s COO, Dennis D’Alessandro, who is not a defendant.
The testimony came as Bryan Cave partner Austin Campriello questioned witness Edward Nelson, who departed Dewey & LeBoeuf soon after it was created through a merger between Dewey Ballantine and LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae in 2007. Campriello represents former Dewey & LeBoeuf executive director Stephen DiCarmine, one of three Dewey leaders on trial in state court in Manhattan for allegedly deceiving the firm’s lenders and investors before the firm folded in 2012.
