I have a friend who can seduce a doorknob. He’s a real charmer and an incurable flirt. I’ve seen him woo workers at the office, parents at school events and the clerk at 7-Eleven. I always think of him whenever people talk about flirting—and whether it’s something that can be used to gain advantage on the job.

Everyone knows that a good flirt can leapfrog over a band of hard working stiffs on the job, but some of us are loathe to admit it. But even if you accept the idea that flirting can work, the more difficult issue is how to do it so that you don’t come across as a sleaze.
