As I’ve prepared to write my final column for The American Lawyer, I’ve been thinking about our futures—yours and mine. I am optimistic about both our prospects. Many if not most law firms have bright outlooks. Their challenges, however, will only grow.
Much of the discussion about the Next Normal has been confined to the variables within the legal marketplace. But a provocative new report from Tony Williams, who runs Jomati Consulting out of London, suggests that firms need to start preparing for major societal changes, ones that may prove so formidable that they will be described as tectonic shifts.
