ROMI NAYEF, a former partner at a Dentons predecessor firm who served as general counsel to the Qatari committee bidding for the 2022 World Cup, has returned from the Middle East to join Greenberg Traurig’s corporate and securities practice as of counsel in his hometown of Houston.

The move comes at a time of increased scrutiny of Qatar’s plans for hosting the enormously popular global soccer tournament, which is held every four years. The Am Law Daily reported earlier this month on an internal report conducted by Kirkland & Ellis litigation and internal investigations partner Michael Garcia that examines the means by which Russia and Qatar secured the rights to host the next two World Cups.
