A month after Bingham McCutchen’s management disclosed to its partnership plans to merge with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, lingering issues remain over what a combined firm might look like.

Bingham partners will gather early next month at the firm’s annual partnership retreat in Scottsdale, Ariz., to discuss the issue of a merger. But in conversations with a half-dozen current and former Bingham lawyers and staffers, The Am Law Daily has learned of some potential sticking points. Besides the usual client conflicts that arise in any merger—in this case, Morgan Lewis going after insurance companies while Bingham doing work for insurers—another more pressing issue is compensation.
