“Shock and awe” isn’t typically an expression applied to smartphones, but I experienced both within my first day with Apple Inc.’s new iPhone 6 Plus. First the shock. Out of the box, the device is larger than it appears online or in advertisements—significantly

larger. Forget about how amazingly thin it is, at just 0.28 inches. You won’t notice that because all you’re thinking is “I’m carrying a phone Fred Flintstone would use to order a Brontosaurus Burger.” With its 5.5-inch screen (again, bigger than you think), it dwarfs the previous iPhone 5 and 5s models. In fact, using my iPhone 5 after a day with the new model was like going back to grade school and being amazed at how small the chairs were. Did I really use something so tiny?
