JORGE ALERS, a former head of the Latin American practice at two Am Law 100 firms and most recently general counsel for the Inter-American Development Bank, is now on the lookout for potential combinations south of the border at Dentons.

The 2,500-lawyer Swiss verein, formed last year through a three-way merger between legacy firms SNR Denton, Fraser Milner Casgrain and Salans, announced Tuesday its hire of Alers to the new position of CEO of Latin America and the Caribbean. Alers, who will initially be based out of Washington, D.C., tells The Am Law Daily that he was drawn to Dentons by the firm’s global chair Joseph Andrew, a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee whose wife, ex-Patton Boggs partner Anne Slaughter Andrew, serves as the U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica.
