The New Jersey Supreme Court heard arguments Sept. 9 over whether a mother should have been found guilty of abusing and neglecting her infant son by undergoing a methadone treatment program while pregnant.

In Division of Youth and Family Services v. Y.N., a trial court and the Appellate Division have agreed that the mother, identified only as Y.N., did abuse and neglect her son, Paul, who was born with severe withdrawal symptoms and remained hospitalized for 47 days.
