Heron Therapeutics Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company that is developing a product to prevent chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, has promoted Esmé Smith to vice president, general counsel and secretary. She will report to Barry Quart, the company’s CEO, in her new position.

“Esmé brings to her role at Heron over 15 years of relevant legal and industry experience that will be vital as we approach several clinical, regulatory and commercial milestones for our SUSTOL and postsurgical pain programs,” said Quart in a statement. “Esmé’s impressive background and proven leadership skills will be an asset to the company and an excellent addition to our management team,” he said.
