Dozens of claimants seeking to recover for injuries they allegedly suffered in a 2013 New York commuter ferry crash are battling with ferry owner SeaStreak LLC over access to the separation agreement the company signed with the ferry captain when he left his job following the accident.

The captain, Jason Reimer, received the brunt of the blame for the crash in a report released in April by the National Transportation Safety Board, which found that the “probable cause” was that Reimer lost control because he did not realize the ferry was in backup mode.
