You know what they say happens when you assume. Well, a grocery store in Virginia learned the hard way. Dori Stibolt of Fox Rothschild reports the store manager allegedly told a job applicant he wouldn’t hire her because the position of a delivery driver wasn’t safe for a woman. A few days later, a man was hired.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission took on the case, which settled this week for $10,500 and the promise to implement a formal companywide antidiscrimination policy, explains Stibolt. As part of the agreement, the company will train all its managers, supervisors and employees on pertinent sections of the Civil Rights Act and report to the EEOC every six months on discrimination.
