Did you just take the bar exam? If so, you may be only a few weeks away from starting your first job as an attorney. For many recent graduates, the anticipation of starting your career can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. Although it might be difficult to predict your professional future, here are a few tips that will help you succeed in your first year.

Be Confident

Law school is tough and you’ve worked hard to earn a professional degree. You’ve also spent the better half of the summer preparing for one of the most difficult exams—the bar exam. Now it is time to put the skills you’ve learned over the last several years into practice. Perhaps the most important skill is your ability to think critically and independently. Many will rely on this skill, so you should be thinking critically at all times. When you’re given an assignment, do not blindly follow the instructions given to you. Think about the assignment, the purpose behind the assignment, and determine if there are other things the assigning attorney might not be thinking about. Your input in this regard will be valuable. So be confident that you possess these skills and demonstrate that you can be as good of a lawyer as anyone else.
