A civil rights class action filed on Wednesday accuses the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority of having a criminal background check policy that is “unduly harsh” and discriminatory.
Pro bono lawyers from Arnold & Porter, the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on behalf of individuals who claim they were fired or denied a job because of their criminal history.
