The Federal Trade Commission has updated three frequently asked questions concerning parental consent under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, according to Lindsey Tonsager of Covington & Burling in a post on the Inside Privacy blog.

Tonsager said the changes appear to be substantial on the surface, but after a closer reading reaffirm long-standing policies and procedures, such as the position that companies can use different methods of meeting parental consent, as long as they’re statutorily acceptable, using the “reasonable effort” standard.
