SAN FRANCISCO—Weil, Gotshal & Manges partner Edward Reines returned to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Friday, seeking to reinstate a $147 million jury verdict that a San Francisco federal judge threw out following a 2012 trial.

There was no mention of the imbroglio involving Reines that coincided with former Chief Judge Randall Rader’s departure from the court last month. But a panel led by Rader’s successor, Sharon Prost, did not sound inclined to rule in favor of Reines’ client, mobile-device manager Mformation Software Technologies Inc., in its high-stakes dispute with BlackBerry maker Research in Motion.
