Judge Robert Wilkins has donned two robes, figuratively speaking, since his January confirmation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He took on a full appellate caseload after moving from the federal trial court in Washington, where he’d served since 2010, to the D.C. Circuit.

But he hasn’t left the trial bench altogether. After his elevation, Wilkins kept a handful of cases from his trial docket, including a patent dispute, a lawsuit against a government contractor and, until last week, the U.S. government’s fraud case against cyclist Lance Armstrong.
