The elephant in the courtroom was named Nunya, according to John Simpson and Michelle Pardo of Norton Rose Fulbright. The two served as lead attorneys for Feld Entertainment Inc., the producer of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, in a series of complaints over alleged animal cruelty to circus elephants, as outlined in an article by Zoe Tillman in our sister publication, The National Law Journal.

In 2009, the duo successfully defended Feld against the charges and brought a separate racketeering lawsuit against the plaintiffs. Just this past May, the parties agreed to settle, on terms favorable to the circus. Law Technology News chatted with Simpson and Pardo about the case and how technology played a role in their win.
