After a two-month takeover quest, veteran French M&A lawyer Jean-Pierre Martel, a partner in the Paris office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, advised the board of engineering giant Alstom as it recommended the acceptance of General Electric's $17 billion bid for its energy business. The deal, which has yielded roles for nearly a dozen firms on both sides of the Atlantic, is the largest in GE's history.
