Following is a listing of legislative and executive action for the week of June 16. Members of the General Assembly were set to return to session June 23.
Protections for youth athletes
• Gov. Tom Corbett signed into law HB 112, which broadens protections for young athletes from sexual assault by coaches and other sports officials. The sponsor of the bill, state Rep. Mike Vereb, R-Montgomery, said it closes a loophole so that coaches and other sports officials who use their position to prey on 16- or 17-year-old athletes can be prosecuted as severely as those who prey on athletes 15 or younger.
