CEO Mary Barra pledged before Congress that General Motors Co. would compensate the families of people injured or killed because of its defective ignition switch, but that hasn’t stopped the automaker from trying to stall lawsuits on those victims’ behalf.

In courts across the country, GM’s lawyers have sought to remove personal injury and wrongful death cases to federal court, prompting a special judicial panel to send them to U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in New York. The latest transfer, on June 18, as Barra made her second appearance before Congress, added 15 cases to Furman’s docket, now totaling 91.
