Large firms have long lagged in matters of diversity, and their record on hiring and promoting African-Americans is especially bleak. Why have firms fallen so short, and what can be done about it?

    Try being a Native American attorney. I can‘t get an associate position with 6 years of government service, two law degrees and five years on the Hill.

    Actually, this article is really on point. As a black man who always worked for large marketing firms, I was always the only black person who mingled with everyone regardless of their positions. My personality helped me to develop more business that my white colleagues were unable to do and upper management were always pleased with my service and networking skills. I will continue to conduct myself in the same manner when I will be an attorney in 2017.
    If more black persons were more trying to network with their colleagues and outside of their office, it would make them more likeable. I volunteer for large non-profit organizations and the black lawyers I see don‘t mingle at all with their colleagues. It is really sad but black associates should start to mingle with everyone regarding of their ethnicity background.

    Without affirmative action you would see the same types of numbers at the top law schools. There is no affirmative action in private law firms. Why are you unwilling to state the obvious truth.
