I’m a huge soccer fan. Chelsea happens to be my favorite club. One of Chelsea’s most expensive players, striker Fernando Torres, is commonly known as the £50 million ($79.5 million) man. That’s actually a bit of a derisive moniker, as things haven’t quite been all peaches and cream for him in West London, where, recently, he often plays the role of a substitute.
In April, during a Champions League quarterfinal match against Paris Saint-Germain, things played out for Torres as they often do these days. Samuel Eto’o started for Chelsea in an attacking role and the usual third-team attacker, Demba Ba, was put on the touch line to trot onto the field as the second attacker in the 65th minute. Torres was subsequently introduced in the 81st minute. The Spaniard didn’t score (Ba did in the 87th minute to win the match, if you care), but he did track back to make a very important key defensive play in extra time.
