Texas Lawyer invited the 25 firms with the largest operations in the state to participate in the 2014 Summer Associate Hiring Survey. The firms are ranked on “The Texas 100” poster published in Texas Lawyer’s April 28, 2014 edition based on the number of lawyers in the firms’ Texas offices. The survey was conducted online from April 15 to May 2, 2014. Twenty-one of the firms responded to the survey and reported hiring 510 summer associates for their Texas offices for 2014, which is 19 fewer Texas summer associates than the same firms hired in 2013. Of the 2014 Texas summer associates hired, 122 have completed one year of law school – increasing the number of 1L summer associates by one when compared with the number of 1Ls hired by the same firms last summer. Four firms declined to take part in the survey: Jones Day; K&L Gates; King & Spalding; and Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons.
