It’s not unusual for BAE Systems Inc. to ping its outside counsel with emails and phone calls every week. In fact, that level of communication is what the defense contractor sets as a standard.

“If you’re not as involved [in litigation], you may not know as much, and it’s harder to assert a course,” said Christine Roth, a senior counsel at the U.S. subsidiary of the British-owned defense supply company. “We have communication. We talk and we think about what’s strategic for the case. Some firms are better at that than others.”
