Casetext applies lessons from crowdsourcing sites like Wikipedia and Quora to case annotation. Launched last May, it’s offering free access to annotated judicial opinions and statutes, attracting some 100,000 people to the site for research every month. Jake Heller, a 29-year-old Stanford Law grad, is cofounder and CEO of the startup, which has raised $1.8 million from investors, including David Tisch’s BoxGroup, Ashton Kutcher’s A-Grade Investments, former Thomson Reuters CEO Tom Glocer, and Quora cofounder Charlie Cheever.
