Blocked: Senators blocked Debo Adegbile from winning confirmation to lead the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. The 47-52 vote included “no” votes from eight Democrats, including Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, who cited “visceral opposition” Adegbile would face in the position, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who joined the others so he might bring the nomination to a vote again.
