SACRAMENTO — Google Inc. must remove an anti-Islamic film clip from its video-sharing site YouTube because an actress established the likelihood that the movie infringed her performance copyright and led outraged viewers to threaten her life, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held on Wednesday.

Cindy Lee Garcia agreed to appear in a low-budget movie given the working title “Desert Warrior.” Only later did she discover that her performance had been placed into “Innocence of Muslims,” a 14-minute trailer that, once posted to YouTube, ignited violent protests among Muslims who found the portrayal of the prophet Muhammad offensive.
