Buckle up, Siri. Many states have banned or are working toward banning the use of mobile devices while driving—and companies that send employees on the road should pay attention.

Illinois, for example, amended its vehicle code a few weeks ago to only permit the use of mobile phones if there’s a Bluetooth headset or other device that doesn’t require the driver to hold the phone. But James Beyer at Seyfarth Shaw, in the Employment Law Lookout blog, suggests employers looking to mitigate their liability take these laws a step further and implement policies about their employees talking and driving.
