Between 2009 and 2012, Tesla Motors Inc. chief executive officer Elon Musk sped through three general counsel. Almost a year later, the office is still empty. But Musk appears to be keeping at least one attorney close: In September his divorce lawyer joined the company as its top attorney.
Todd Maron, who spent the last seven years handling high-end family law disputes at Jaffe and Clemens in Beverly Hills, was brought on as deputy general counsel in September. Although lawyers familiar with the company said that they expect Maron to ultimately move into the driver’s seat at Tesla, a company spokeswoman said he would not step into the role, adding that the search for a general counsel “has not concluded, nor do we expect it to conclude in the near future.” Maron declined to comment.
